GIF: Football follies in the desert
San Diego Chargers tight end John Phillips scored what is almost certainly the most bizarre touchdown of his career during his team's pre-season game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday.
It started when Chargers running back Ryan Mathews fumbled the ball while attempting to leap over the line to score a touchdown.
Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson picked up the loose ball and then inexplicably tried to lateral it to teammate Sam Acho.
Antonio Gates then made the heads-up play of tackling Acho and forcing the play's second fumble, which popped into the air and into the waiting arms of Phillips, who walked it in for the touchdown.
