New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh reiterated his backing of Zach Wilson despite the quarterback's ongoing struggles.

"We're not going to quit on him," Saleh said Friday, according to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.

Wilson was benched for Chris Streveler in Thursday night's 19-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after completing just nine of 18 passes for 92 yards and an interception.

Saleh believes a lack of confidence is the root cause of Wilson's issues under center.

"It's a tough thing to overcome," Saleh noted. "But it doesn't take much to flip confidence. He just needs to get on a little run."

The Jets' head coach declined to name Wilson the starter for Week 17 if Mike White isn't ready to return, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. White took over the starting job from the former second-overall pick but has missed the last two games due to a rib injury.

Saleh stood behind Wilson throughout the campaign despite his inconsistencies as a passer. However, when asked if the 23-year-old is still the franchise's quarterback of the future, he replied, "We're not going to quit on anybody. I have confidence in all of our guys."

The Jets, who started the season 7-4, have dropped four in a row and fallen out of a playoff spot. Meanwhile, Wilson has thrown six touchdowns to seven interceptions across nine starts.
