Report: Seahawks rebuffed Bears' 'very aggressive' Wilson pursuit

The Chicago Bears made a "very aggressive pursuit" of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson but were told the Seahawks won't trade him at this time, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Chicago reportedly pivoted and agreed to a one-year deal with Andy Dalton on Tuesday.

Wilson has not requested a trade from the Seahawks, but he has gone public this offseason about his displeasure with both the number of hits he's taken behind his offensive line and not being involved in team decisions.

Wilson's agent, Mark Rodgers, said in late February that Wilson would waive his no-trade clause for the Bears, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, or Las Vegas Raiders.

The Bears appear ready to move on from the Mitch Trubisky-Nick Foles quarterback tandem that resulted in a second consecutive 8-8 finish in 2020. Trubisky started nine of those games and a wild-card playoff contest in which the offense scored nine points in a loss to the New Orleans Saints. Foles drew the other seven starts and led the team to just two wins.

Trubisky is a free agent after the Bears declined his fifth-year option, while Foles still has two years remaining on a restructured deal he signed with Chicago last April.

Dalton spent the 2020 season with the Cowboys backing up Dak Prescott. He started nine games after Prescott suffered a season-ending injury.
