The Washington Redskins have traded left tackle Trent Williams to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round selection.

The fifth-round pick is No. 156 overall in Saturday's draft. The deal is pending a physical.

San Francisco's move for the seven-time Pro Bowler took place minutes before six-time Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley announced his retirement after 13 seasons in the NFL.

Williams had one year and $12.5 million left on his contract with the Redskins and had indicated his desire for a new contract. He and the 49ers are expected to restructure the last season of his current deal, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The 31-year-old is considered one of the best left tackles in football. He'll reunite with Kyle Shanahan, his offensive coordinator with the Redskins from 2010-13 and San Francisco's current head coach.
