The XFL suspended all operations and terminated its entire staff, chief operating officer Jeffrey Pollack informed employees Friday, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

The league said it was "committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years" when it announced in March that the season would be suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. The season was later canceled entirely.

Now, however, there are no plans for the XFL to return next season, sources told Yates and Kevin Seifert.

A small "skeleton crew" of executives will continue to work at the league's headquarters, according to Konnor Fulk of XFL News Hub.

The rebooted XFL, which previously ran for one year in 2001, was in its first season back and had played five weeks of games.
