Colts' Hilton plans to retire 'lucky charm' clown mask

T.Y. Hilton will be leaving his clown mask at home for the Indianapolis Colts' AFC divisional-round matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Colts wide receiver wore the mask to Saturday's wild-card game in Houston after Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph called him a clown for referring to NRG Stadium - where Hilton's enjoyed a lot of success as a visiting player - as his "second home."

"I got a lot of messages last night with what (Joseph) said," Hilton told Nick Shook of NFL.com on Saturday after Indianapolis defeated Houston 21-7. "I said, you know what, let's have fun with it. So it was something I did, I wanted to have fun with it, but now it's over.

"I wanted to have fun. My teammates, they look for me for a lot of stuff. I wanted to go out here and set the tone. I didn't want to be a distraction. Once I got here, I wanted to let them know I'm totally focused. Even though I did that and said what is aid, my focus is I'm here for y'all."

The Philadelphia Eagles wore dog masks to represent their underdog status throughout their Super Bowl run last season, but Hilton said his mask was a one-time thing.

"It might be the lucky charm, but nah, it's done," he said. "It's retired after today. ... The mask is done after today. It might stay in Houston, or it might go back. I don't know yet."

Hilton ended up bringing the mask home, as he tweeted a photo of one of his children wearing it Sunday morning.
