Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis will be out multiple weeks with a groin injury, head coach Chuck Pagano announced Tuesday, according to the Indy Star's Stephen Holder.
Pagano called the injury "significant," according to the Indy Star's Zak Keefer.
Davis enjoyed a standout camp after finally getting healthy. He's now in danger of missing at least the Colts' season opener on Sept. 10.
Despite a down year in 2016, the 29-year-old remains the standout player of Indy's secondary - and with little depth at the position, the Colts could struggle to perform in his absence.
Rookie Quincy Wilson will likely take over the starting role if Davis does miss time, though the young corner is dealing with a knee injury.
