No. 1 recruit Holmgren commits to Gonzaga
Chet Holmgren, the No. 1 ranked recruit in the 2021 class, announced Monday on ESPN that he'll attend Gonzaga in the fall.
A product of the Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, the 7-foot-1 Holmgren also weighed offers from Georgetown, Memphis, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Ohio State, according to ESPN's Paul Biancardi.
Holmgren is the first No. 1 prospect to commit to Gonzaga in the program's history and a massive recruitment coup for head coach Mark Few.
The 18-year-old averaged 20.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.7 blocks, and 4.5 assists while shooting 80% from the field this season, guiding Minnehaha to a fourth-straight Class 3A state title. He's considered an elite rim protector with a versatile offensive game and top-tier scoring prowess.
Holmgren played at Minnehaha with Gonzaga star Jalen Suggs, who declared for the NBA draft on Monday.
