Projected top-3 pick Suggs declares for NBA Draft
Gonzaga guard Jalen Suggs announced Monday that he's declaring for the NBA Draft.
Suggs leaves Spokane after a standout freshman season where the projected top-three pick earned consensus second-team All-American and first-team All-WCC honors.
It's anticipated that Suggs will contend with USC big man Evan Mobley to be the second name called by commissioner Adam Silver at the NBA draft on July 29. Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham is widely expected to go first overall.
Suggs, a combo guard with elite athleticism and court vision, averaged 14.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game last season as the Bulldogs became the first unbeaten team to advance to the national championship game since 1979.
He put up a team-high 22 points in a losing effort against Baylor in the marquee contest, capping a noteworthy tournament for the 6-foot-4 star highlighted by the dramatic game-winner against UCLA in the Final Four.
Suggs' decision comes on a particularly significant day for the Bulldogs after Gonzaga received a commitment from 7-foot-1 Chet Holmgren, the first No. 1 recruit in program history. Holmgren and Suggs played together at Minnehaha in Minneapolis, where the pair won three Class 3A state titles together.
