FCS struggles versus FBS in Week 2

The Associated Press ·

(STATS) - One week after five FCS teams went the distance to score wins over FBS programs, many more that sought similar results were flattened by knockout punches.

The two levels of Division I college football got together for 29 games in the second full week of the season, and the FBS won 28 of them by an average of over 39 points.

Maine provided the only upset, knocking off Western Kentucky 31-28 behind quarterback Chris Ferguson's three touchdown passes. It was the No. 22 Black Bears' third all-time win over an FBS opponent.

Ninth-ranked Samford staged the second-closest effort, leading Florida State for much of the game before it fell 36-26.

The day's largest FCS losses were 77-0 - Lamar against Texas Tech and Savannah State to Miami (Fla.).

There are 32 more FBS-FCS matchups this season.
