Former LSU and Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly is in negotiations with CBS Sports to join the network's college football coverage, a source told The Athletic's Ralph D. Russo.
Kelly's full role with CBS Sports remains to be determined, and a deal hasn't been finalized, per Russo. The 64-year-old previously worked as a studio analyst for CBS Sports Network during its NFL draft coverage.
LSU fired Kelly last October after he guided the program to a 5-3 mark in 2025 and a 34-14 overall record over three-plus seasons.
The sides agreed to a $54-million buyout in November. That same month, the Tigers hired Lane Kiffin away from Ole Miss to serve as Kelly's successor.
CBS airs a weekly Big Ten game and has broadcast agreements with the Mountain West, Pac-12, Conference USA, and MAC, as well as Army, Navy, and UConn. Charles Davis will be the network's Big Ten game analyst, sharing the booth with Brad Nessler following Gary Danielson's retirement.
Kelly will bring plenty of coaching experience to his new role, owning a 200-76 record as a head coach. He also led Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, and Grand Valley State across 22 seasons.
