Scott Frost: I have a hard time calling UCF the 2017 national champion

Despite not participating in the most recent College Football Playoff - which Alabama won with a victory over Georgia - UCF was quick to claim a national championship for itself due to finishing the season with a perfect record.

UCF even put "National Champions" on team rings and unveiled a banner in its home stadium.

But while Scott Frost - who coached the Knights during their perfect campaign before leaving for Nebraska this offseason - said the attention the school has received for its championship celebration is great, he admitted things might have been different if he'd remained in Florida.

"All I'll say is if we had stayed there, I would have had a hard time getting behind it," Frost told George Schroeder of USA Today. "I think it was smart by them, because it has kept UCF in the media and in the conversation. But you know, like our rings, I kind of wish my ring just said 'Undefeated Season' and 'Peach Bowl Champion.'"

Frost completely transformed the Knights during his two years at the helm, ultimately turning an 0-12 team he inherited into a 13-0 powerhouse.

That alone is an astounding feat that deserves to be recognized, but it's probably a safe bet that most outside the UCF community have Alabama as the real 2017 national champion.
