Five-star recruit Xavier Young has committed to LSU and is reclassifying into the 2027 class, he told ESPN's Paul Biancardi and Jeff Borzello.

Young was the No. 9 overall recruit on the ESPN 100 for 2028. He chose the Tigers over Maryland, Michigan, TCU, and Tennessee.

The 6-foot-9 center turned 16 in March, so he'll need to spend at least two seasons at LSU before declaring for the NBA draft, according to Biancardi and Borzello.

"I put a lot of trust in coach (Will) Wade," Young said. "He has a two-year plan to help me get to the league."

Wade now boasts the top-ranked 2027 recruiting class. The LSU head coach previously secured commitments from top-15 prospects Reese Alston and King Gibson, as well as four-star recruit Ahmad Hudson.

The Tigers haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 2022.

"I'm excited and can't wait to play with King Gibson and Reese Alston, two of the best guards in the country," Young added.

Young played a key role in Team USA's gold-medal run at last summer's FIBA U17 World Cup, averaging 7.6 points and 3.7 boards. He's an efficient low-post scorer who has shown flashes of a face-up game.
