Washington Wizards guard Trae Young appears set to hit the market as he plans to decline his $48.97-million player option for next season, sources told Andscape's Marc J. Spears.
The Wizards remain the front-runner for Young's services, but the four-time All-Star expects to attract interest from multiple teams, Spears reports.
Washington acquired Young from the Atlanta Hawks in January for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.
Young made five appearances for the Wizards, averaging 15.2 points, 6.2 assists, and three boards. His campaign ended early due to low back pain and a right quad contusion.
The 27-year-old spent parts of eight campaigns with the Hawks. The Oklahoma product is the franchise's all-time leader in 3-pointers and assists. He led the team to an East finals appearance during the 2020-21 campaign.
Washington posted a league-worst 17-65 record last season. However, the Wizards could soon turn things around, as they hold the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft and added Anthony Davis at last season's trade deadline.
