Report: Knicks won't raise NBA Cup banner
An NBA Cup banner won't fly at Madison Square Garden.
The New York Knicks are choosing not to raise a banner after defeating the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in the midseason tournament final Tuesday, a source told Ian Begley of SNY.
Both previous winners of the NBA Cup, the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks, raised banners immediately following their respective victories in 2023 and 2024.
The Knicks are instead focused on winning the NBA Finals at the end of the season, according to Begley. However, the organization reportedly doesn't want to minimize the NBA Cup triumph and will celebrate with fans Friday when the team returns home to host the Philadelphia 76ers.
The most recent Knicks banner to go up at MSG was for the 2012-13 Atlantic Division title. Their 1970 and 1973 NBA championships have also long been commemorated in the arena's rafters.
