Invited draft prospects must participate in NBA combine starting in 2024
All players invited to the NBA Draft Combine must attend and participate in events or be ruled draft ineligible beginning in 2024, according to a memo from the league and NBPA obtained by ESPN's Jonathan Givony.
Invitees will need to participate in a variety of drills and physical tests, share medical history, and be available for interviews with team and media members, among other activities. Players won't be required to participate in five-on-five scrimmages.
Those who are physically unable to participate - due to playing with an international club still in season, dealing with family events, or managing an injury certified by the combine's medical director - must complete events at a later date or be ruled ineligible to be picked on draft night.
This pact is part of the new collective bargaining agreement, which includes plans to institute a new in-season tournament that offers a reported $500,000 sum for each player on the winning team.
The combine takes place from May 16-18 this year.
