Report: Rasheed Wallace is candidate to join Lakers' coaching staff

Retired four-time All-Star Rasheed Wallace is a candidate to join the Los Angeles Lakers' coaching staff under new head coach Darvin Ham, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports.

Charania initially reported Wallace and the Lakers had agreed upon a deal to make Wallace an assistant coach, then later added that negotiations haven't reached a stage involving a formal contract.

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway, who employed Wallace as an assistant coach with the Tigers during the 2021-22 season, hinted the former Detroit Pistons star was likely to join Ham's staff earlier Monday in a conversation with the Commercial Appeal's Jason Munz.

Ham and Wallace have a notable history with one another, having both played for the Pistons' title team in 2004. Wallace was an assistant with Detroit during the 2013-14 campaign, but he hasn't coached in the NBA since.

Wallace is best known for his on-court intensity and production during an impressive 16-year NBA playing career. He averaged 14.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and one steal across 1,109 games (956 starts).
