The Houston Rockets initially planned to host "Travis Scott Day" during Wednesday's game against the visiting Detroit Pistons to celebrate the city's eight-time Grammy-nominated rapper.

Instead, the Rockets postponed the theme night and opted for a pregame moment of silence Wednesday following multiple deaths and many injuries at Scott's Astroworld Fest last weekend.

"After what was a horrific tragedy last week, we felt it would have been insensitive and not the right time for us to move forward," Rockets president of business operations Gretchen Sheirr said, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen. "Tonight, we'll honor victims with a moment of silence to help our community heal."

Astroworld Fest turned deadly Friday when the roughly 50,000 attendees pushed toward the main stage during Scott's headlining set. Eight concertgoers between the ages of 14 and 27 died from the incident.

The exact cause of the surge remains subject to investigation, according to The New York Times.

Rockets rookie Jalen Green said he might have attended the festival had his team not been on the road last weekend.

"I thought it was sad that one of Houston's own can't have a concert without something tragic happening," Green told The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears on Sunday.

"At the end of the day, people have to be safe," Green added. "If I was in town, I probably would have been there. It hurts seeing how it turned into a tragedy."
