Report: Kings pick up Jones' option, adding to frontcourt logjam
The Sacramento Kings have picked up the $2-million player option for center Damian Jones, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Jones made appearances with the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers last season before finishing the year with the Kings. The 26-year-old averaged 6.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and a block in just over 20 minutes per game through 17 outings for Sacramento.
At 6-foot-11, the traditionally skilled big man will continue to play for a Kings team that's currently overrun with interior behemoths.
In addition to fellow holdovers Richaun Holmes (who re-upped on a four-year deal) and 2018 No. 2 pick Marvin Bagley, Sacramento added veteran center Tristan Thompson via trade, signed ex-Kings big man Alex Len in free agency, and picked up Neemias Queta - a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award at Utah State - with the No. 39 pick in last month's draft.
After less than a year as Sacramento's general manager, Monte McNair is apparently already under pressure to demonstrate on-court success - a major catalyst in the Kings' reported interest in acquiring either Ben Simmons from the Philadelphia 76ers or Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors.
