Melo re-signs with Blazers on reported 1-year deal
The Portland Trail Blazers will stay Melo.
Portland announced on Sunday the re-signing of Carmelo Anthony. It's a 1-year contract, sources tell The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Anthony joined the Trail Blazers in Nov. 2019 after a year-long absence from the NBA, during which he admitted he seriously contemplated retirement. The 36-year-old impressed in his return to the league and went on to score 15.4 points per game in 58 starts as Portland's third option on offense behind Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.
The 10-time All-Star chose to return to the Blazers out of loyalty to the franchise, Charania reports.
After the Los Angeles Lakers eliminated Portland from the postseason in August, Anthony said he anticipated playing another year in 2020-21 and admitted he would like to stick around in Rip City.
"I pray that it can be Portland, I think I found a home in Portland," he said in August. "I think you (media members) saw it, why this is a good fit for me.
"Whenever you find a situation that's comfortable and allows you to be who you are, you want to stay in that situation. There's no need to try different things when something is working."
The 2020-21 season will be Anthony's 18th in the NBA.
