Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jordan Clarkson has been cleared to play for the Philippines in the upcoming Asian Games, CNN Philippines confirmed Tuesday.

The NBA had initially denied Clarkson's request to play in the tournament because it is not a FIBA qualifier event. However, the Philippine Olympic Committee appealed the ruling in part because China's roster at the Asian Games includes Houston Rockets center Zhou Qi.

Clarkson, who was raised in Texas, has a Filipino mother. The Asian Games basketball tournament begins Thursday in Indonesia.
