Jarrod Saltalamacchia won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2013, and his desire to taste glory again prompted him to join the Detroit Tigers.

"I want to win," the veteran catcher told Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press. "I came from the Red Sox organization, where we won the World Series and every year we were competing for it. So as a player, that's all you can ask for."

The 30-year-old former first-round pick signed a one-year contract for the major-league minimum to back up James McCann, and intends to bring a competitive edge to the Tigers next season.

"I've always come into spring training competing, whether it's against another player or myself," he explained. "I always want to get better than the year prior, so every year, I've come in and competed."

Saltalamacchia got off to a rough start for the Miami Marlins in 2015, hitting .069/.182/.207, and was released on May 5. Two days later, he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, with whom he hit .251/.332/.474 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs.
