Blue Jays recall Hutchison; option Thole
The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled right-hander Drew Hutchison from Triple-A Buffalo.
Hutchison will start Saturday against the Detroit Tigers.
In a corresponding move, the team will option catcher Josh Thole to rookie ball Bluefield. Thole could return after the Bluefield season ends on Sept. 1.
Hutchison was demoted on Aug. 17 despite the hurler earning a record of 12-2.
The 25-year-old did have a 5.06 ERA across 24 starts, so the high win total was more a result of the Blue Jays' offense giving the youngster a lot of run support.
Thole will be demoted after slotting into the lineup to catch knuckleballer R.A. Dickey in Friday's 5-3 win over the Tigers. He was 0-for-2 in the contest and was replaced by Dioner Navarro in the seventh inning.
Hutchison will re-join a Blue Jays rotation that currently features David Price, Dickey, Mark Buehrle, Marco Estrada and could see the return of Marcus Stroman.
