New York Mets infielder Bo Bichette will exercise his $42-million player option for the 2027 season, sources told The Athletic's Will Sammon.
Bichette signed a three-year, $126-million deal with the Mets last January but struggled in his first season in Queens, slashing .260/.312/.390 with 18 homers, 78 RBIs, and a .709 OPS over 160 games.
The 28-year-old's pact includes another $42-million player option for 2028. He could test free agency again a year from now under a new collective bargaining agreement, as the current one expires on Dec. 1, which is expected to usher in a lockout.
Bichette also had to adjust to third base after spending seven seasons exclusively at shortstop with the Toronto Blue Jays. His 135 fielding assists and nine double plays turned both ranked last among qualified third basemen, per Fangraphs, though Bichette played the third-fewest games.
The two-time All-Star will reportedly rejoin a Mets lineup featuring Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, Carson Benge, and A.J. Ewing.
