The Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Michael Lorenzen agreed to a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday.
Lorenzen arrives in Toronto after being released by the Colorado Rockies earlier in August. The 34-year-old owns a 7.08 ERA across 25 starts and one relief appearance this season.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Lorenzen told him he could "throw 100 pitches today. You can try to break me. It's not going to work," according to MLB.com's Brian Murphy. Lorenzen has reported to the team and will be active for Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
Toronto optioned right-hander Chad Dallas to Triple-A Buffalo and transferred outfielder Jonatan Clase to the 60-day injured list in corresponding moves.
Lorenzen joins a pitching rotation that's been battered by injuries to key starters Shane Bieber, Trey Yesavage, and Cody Ponce.
