Pillar originally planned to retire at the end of the 2024 campaign, but he wound up signing a minor-league deal for the 2025 campaign with the Texas Rangers after realizing he still had something left in the tank.
The 36-year-old made the Rangers out of spring training. However, he was designated for assignment after slashing .209/.209/.256 in 20 games.
Pillar spent 13 seasons in the majors, appearing in games with 10 teams. His best years came with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he became a staple in their outfield from 2013-19.
The California native retires with a career .255/.293/.405 slash line alongside 114 home runs and 54 defensive runs saved.
