The Detroit Tigers traded veteran outfielder Mark Canha to the San Francisco Giants for 21-year-old right-hander Eric Silva, the teams announced.
"I'm coming home," Canha told the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser after learning of the trade. "I'm over the moon about this. I got lucky."
Canha, 35, is hitting .231/.337/.350 with 17 doubles and 38 RBIs in 93 games this season. He's typically one of the better on-base players in baseball, with a .348 career on-base percentage over 10 big-league campaigns.
This is the second straight season in which Canha was dealt before the deadline and the third time he's switched teams since last July.
Silva was a fourth-round draft choice of the Giants in 2021. The right-hander owns a 4.35 ERA in 41 1/3 innings this season at Double-A Richmond. He was the 25th-ranked prospect in the Giants' farm system, according to Baseball America.
The Giants recalled infielder Marco Luciano and catcher Blake Sabol in corresponding moves after they dealt right-hander Alex Cobb to the Cleveland Guardians earlier in the day.
