The Minnesota Twins traded infielder Jorge Polanco to the Seattle Mariners for right-handers Anthony DeSclafani and Justin Topa, as well as prospects Gabriel Gonzalez and Darren Bowen, the teams announced Monday.

The Mariners also sent cash to the Twins.

Polanco went deep 14 times with 48 RBIs and a .789 OPS over 80 games during an injury-plagued 2023 season. However, he's just two years removed from slashing .269/.323/.503 with 33 homers and 98 RBIs across 152 contests.

The 2019 All-Star will make $10.5 million during his age-30 campaign in 2024. He also has another club option for $12.5 million in 2025.

"From the beginning of this offseason, Jorge was someone we identified as a perfect fit for our roster," Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said in a statement. "As a switch-hitter with a long track record of success, he's also renowned around the league for his work ethic and leadership skills."

Meanwhile, DeSclafani joins the Twins without throwing a single pitch for the Mariners. The veteran hurler was part of the Robbie Ray deal with the San Francisco Giants in early January.

The 33-year-old posted a 4.88 ERA with 1.25 WHIP and 79 strikeouts over 99 2/3 innings (18 starts) with the Giants last season. He missed significant time due to a flexor strain.

"We're trying to find a way to add to '24 and also keep an eye on the future," Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes and Ken Rosenthal. "This was the first deal for us that intersected both of those in a way that felt like it was above the line."

Topa authored a 2.61 ERA with 1.15 WHIP and 8.0 K/9 in 75 appearances working out of the Mariners bullpen during the 2023 campaign.

Gonzalez, a 20-year-old outfielder, is the 79th-best prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He registered 18 homers with an .837 OPS over a combined 116 games between two Single-A levels last season.

The 22-year-old Brown amassed a 3.88 ERA with 59 strikeouts over 55 2/3 innings in Single-A last season. The right-hander is expected to enter the Twins' top 30 in their minor-league system.
