Astros' Alvarez exits vs. Blue Jays with oblique discomfort

Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez left Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the third inning with right oblique discomfort, the team announced, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.

Alvarez grounded out to first base during his only at-bat of the contest and was replaced by Corey Julks before his next turn at the dish.

He said postgame he felt something in his oblique during a swing in the batting cages before the game began, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome. The area continued to bother Alvarez during two swings and misses in his lone at-bat, prompting his exit.

Alvarez leads MLB with 55 RBIs and is tied for fourth with 17 home runs.

The 25-year-old missed time earlier in the season with a neck issue. He's also been hampered by a sore ankle and hand this year.
