Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu is on track to return from Tommy John surgery in the summer of 2023.

"I met with my surgeon before coming home, and I am right on schedule," Ryu said, according to Yonhap News Agency's Jeeho Yoo. "At this rate, I should be able to return immediately after the All-Star break (in July).

"I think I will start getting into rehab games in June. I will try to come back in July and put on good performances for my fans."

The 35-year-old was expected to miss 12-to-18 months after undergoing revision UCL reconstruction with a flexor tendon repair in mid-June, leaving some to wonder if he would ever pitch for Toronto again.

Ryu has one more season left on a four-year, $80-million contract he signed before the 2020 campaign. He owns a career 3.27 ERA and finished as a Cy Young finalist in back-to-back years with the Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019 and 2020.
