Twins' Gray exits start in 2nd inning with hamstring injury

Minnesota Twins right-hander Sonny Gray was removed from Saturday's start against the Boston Red Sox during the second inning after grabbing at his right hamstring.

The two-time All-Star had recorded five outs when he was visited by trainer Michael Salazar and manager Rocco Baldelli. After a short conference, Gray was lifted from the game and Josh Winder took over from the bullpen.

Minnesota placed Gray on the injured list Sunday.

Acquired prior to the season from the Cincinnati Reds for 2021 first-round pick Chase Petty, Gray was making his second start with his new club. Through 6 1/3 innings, Gray has got hit around. He's allowed four runs on five hits - including two homers - and three walks.

Winder filled in relatively well out of the 'pen, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over 5 1/3 innings.

Gray was hit with the loss, as the Red Sox shut out the Twins 4-0.
