Houston Astros rookie right-hander Luis Garcia will start Game 6 of the World Series against the Atlanta Braves on three days' rest, manager Dusty Baker announced following the team's Game 5 win, according to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle.
Baker made the choice to start Garcia after Jose Urquidy, who was lined up for the outing, tossed a scoreless inning of relief Sunday.
Garcia started Game 3, giving up one run on three hits while striking out six in 3 2/3 innings.
This will mark the second time in his brief career that Garcia's taken the ball on short rest. He made a regular-season start on three days' rest April 29, allowing one run on three hits over five innings in a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners. However, that came on the heels of a brief relief appearance; his Game 6 start will follow Friday's 72-pitch outing.
The 24-year-old owns a 7.62 ERA with 18 strikeouts and 11 walks across four starts this postseason. Garcia's finest performance came in Game 6 of the ALCS when he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning to help the Astros clinch the pennant.
Garcia will be opposed by Braves left-hander Max Fried, who allowed six runs in Game 2 at Minute Maid Park.
