The New York Mets acquired left-hander Rich Hill from the Tampa Bay Rays for right-hander Tommy Hunter and minor-league catcher Matt Dyer, the team announced.
Hill should provide the Mets' injury-riddled starting rotation with a boost.
The 41-year-old owns a 6-4 record with a 3.87 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 95 1/3 innings this season. He signed a one-year, $2.5-million deal with the Rays in February.
Mets starting pitchers Jacob deGrom, Carlos Carrasco, Noah Syndergaard, David Peterson, and Joey Lucchesi are all sidelined with injuries.
Hunter hasn't allowed a run in four appearances - six innings - for the Mets this campaign. He's been on the 60-day injured list since June 11 with lower-back pain.
The Rays drafted Hunter in 2005, and he's spent time with seven teams throughout his 14-year career. The 35-year-old also pitched for Tampa Bay in 2017, posting a 2.61 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 61 games.
The Mets selected Dyer in the fourth round of the 2020 draft. He slashed .194/.329/.452 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs at Single-A St. Lucie. The 23-year-old is considered a strong defender behind the plate.
The Rays were also involved in a trade Thursday, acquiring slugger Nelson Cruz from the Minnesota Twins in a four-player deal.
