The San Francisco Giants aren't actively shopping catcher Joey Bart, despite his name routinely surfacing in trade discussions, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Bart was mentioned as a possible trade chip when the Giants contacted the Cleveland Indians about acquiring shortstop Francisco Lindor, Rosenthal adds. Lindor was eventually traded to the New York Mets.

The 24-year-old Bart has been viewed as Buster Posey's future replacement at catcher after being selected second overall in the 2018 draft. Bart struggled during his first taste of big-league action last season, striking out 41 times in 111 plate appearances.

Giants general manager Scott Harris recently mentioned that Bart would likely begin the 2021 season in the minors after the team signed catcher Curt Casali to a one-year deal, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

San Francisco also has Chadwick Tromp on its depth charts and used the 13th overall selection in the 2020 draft to select catcher Patrick Bailey.
