The San Francisco Giants have signed first baseman Justin Smoak to a minor-league deal and added him to the active roster, the team announced on Thursday.
The veteran slugger was released by the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday after he hit .186/.262/.381 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in 33 games.
Smoak owns a .741 OPS with 196 homers and 570 RBIs during an 11-year career.
In corresponding moves, the Giants reinstated left-hander Drew Smyly and optioned right-hander Rico Garcia to the team's alternate training site.
San Francisco also released infielder Pablo Sandoval in a separate transaction on Thursday.
