New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano has a torn left hamstring, Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports reports.

The 36-year-old was placed on the injured list Monday with what was believed to be a strained hamstring but had an MRI to determine the severity of the ailment. He suffered the injury Sunday while running the bases in a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"I was running and just felt something tight on my left side, and I just stopped," Cano told Jake Crouse of MLB.com postgame.

Cano will not require surgery, though there is no timetable for his return, according to Ehalt.

The eight-time All-Star has struggled in his first season with the Mets after a blockbuster trade sent him to Queens in the offseason. Cano is slashing .252/.295/.415 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs through 86 games. He has also landed on the IL three times.
