Robinson Cano's frustrating season continued on Monday, with the New York Mets placing the second baseman on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a strained left hamstring during Sunday's game.

Infielder Luis Guillorme was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Cano hurt his hamstring while running the bases in the fourth inning of New York's 13-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He left the field without assistance but was noticeably limping.

"I was running and just felt something tight on my left side, and I just stopped," Cano told Jake Crouse of MLB.com after the game.

He was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the strain. Results of that exam aren't available yet.

Cano, 36, has struggled offensively during his first season with the Mets, slashing .252/.295/.415 with a career-worst 10 homers and 32 RBIs through 86 games. He had improved lately, though, sporting a .834 OPS with six homers since July 2.

This is Cano's third IL stint of 2019. He also missed time in May and June due to a pair of left quadriceps injuries.

Guillorme, 24, has recorded a .399 OPS in 17 games for the Mets this year. However, his recall comes on the heels of a red-hot run that's seen him slash .283/.389/.522 with three homers and nine RBIs over his last 13 games for Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets also announced that right-hander Walker Lockett was recalled to serve as their 26th man for Monday's doubleheader against the Miami Marlins.
