Warning: Story contains coarse language

New York Mets left-hander Jason Vargas spoke Wednesday about the verbal altercation he had with a reporter on June 23, adding to an initial statement he made the day after the incident.

Vargas told reporters that there's more to the story than what's been printed.

"It was an unfortunate confrontation," Vargas said, according to ESPN. "I don't think all the information is really out there. I don't think this is a time to get into that. But I think that anybody that knows me, anybody that has played with me, there's never been a situation like that. So to think it happened out of the blue, it's foolish.''

Vargas and Mets manager Mickey Callaway were each fined for their parts in the confrontation with Newsday's Tim Healey.

After a loss to the Cubs, Healey reportedly said to the manager, "See you tomorrow, Mickey." The skipper responded by asking staff to "get this motherfucker out" of the clubhouse. Vargas then threatened Healey, saying, "I'll knock you the fuck out, bro."

The veteran southpaw didn't provide additional clarity beyond saying there were more unreported details, and instead elected to put the issue to rest.

"It's over,'' he said. "Our organization made a statement. We put an end to it. But I think it's pretty obvious all the info isn't out there.''

With Wednesday's loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets have dropped four straight and seven of their last 10 games. They sit 11 games back of the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves.
