Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jake Jewell was carted off the field at Fenway Park in Boston on Wednesday after suffering an awful-looking injury.

It occurred when the rookie was trying to cover the plate following a wild pitch.

Jewell, who stumbled and appeared to badly roll his ankle, was attended to by trainers before being removed from the field.

After the contest, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Jewell was sent to Massachusetts General Hospital to be evaluated and the club will update his status at a later date, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

The 25-year-old was recalled by the Angels on Wednesday. He had logged just two career MLB appearances before entering the contest against the Red Sox.
