The world champion Chicago Cubs are headed to the big screen for the first time since the days of Henry Rowengartner.
The soon-to-be-released memoir of retired Cubs catcher and beloved member of the 2016 champions David Ross, entitled "Teammate: My Journey in Baseball and a World Series for the Ages," has been optioned to Radar Pictures for a film adaptation of the Cubs' magical run to the World Series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Ram Getz and John Corcoran are set to co-write the screenplay under the shortened title "Teammate: My Life in Baseball," per the Reporter. The book itself will be released in May.
Ross' story will play a central role in the film adaptation. The 40-year-old, who's currently competing on "Dancing With The Stars," was affectionately nicknamed "Grandpa Rossy" by his much younger teammates before his final big-league season. He then memorably homered in Game 7 of the World Series - the final game of his 15-year career - and became the oldest player to do so in a seventh game.
