Report: Mets have 'some curiosity' in Padres' Loney
With Lucas Duda ruled out for at least one month with a stress fracture in his back, the New York Mets are in need of reinforcements at first base.
James Loney could be an option.
Loney's representatives will contact the Mets on Tuesday to see if the reigning National League champions are interested in having the 32-year-old step in for the injured Duda, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The inquiry isn't unfounded, as Sherman also reports that the Mets do have "some curiosity" in the San Diego Padres infielder.
Currently with the Padres' Triple-A affiliate, Loney has an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract that would allow him to join a big-league club's 25-man roster. The former first-round pick is slashing .333/.368/.417 in 39 games this season with the El Paso Chihuahuas.
