Monaco ends 17-year wait for Ligue 1 title
A one-club league no more, as Monaco topped Saint-Etienne on Wednesday to win its first Ligue 1 title since 1999-2000, putting an end to Paris Saint-Germain's four titles on the trot and stranglehold on the French top flight.

Kylian Mbappe scored his 26th goal in all competitions by eluding Les Verts shot-stopper Stephane Ruffier in the 19th minute to send Leonardo Jardim's lot on its way to a stunning championship, and it was a deserved victory for a side who has single-handedly transformed Ligue 1 this season.
Valere Germain made it 2-0 with the last kick of the match as the Stade Louis II erupted in elation.
Mbappe's opener was a fitting goal for a side who benefited greatly from it's young core this season. The 18-year-old attacker shares the accolades with Thomas Lemar (21), Bernardo Silva (22), Tiemoue Bakayoko (22), Fabinho (23) and Benjamin Mendy (22) as the principality side's youth movement has set the standard that the rest of Ligue 1 will now measure themselves against.

Monaco's 104 goals scored in Ligue 1 is a division best and its 156 tallies in all competitions led all teams in Europe's top five leagues on its way to a ninth top-flight crown.
Ahead of what is likely to be a summer of flux for Les Monegasques, boasting a squad rife with players desired by Europe's biggest clubs, Jardim and Co. will have several vital decisions to make. After Wednesday's title clincher at the Stade Louis II, the only choice needed is bubbly or beer.
For a side that became one of the continent's most effervescent sides, champagne should be the preferred choice.
