Pochettino confirms Spurs' interest in Marseille stud Batshuayi

Days after reports surfaced that Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi would fancy a move to Tottenham in the summer, Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino admitted that the club is monitoring the 22-year-old Belgian international.

"We are looking for a striker this summer, that's clear," Pochettino told RMC courtesy of the Evening Standard. "Michy's a young player who has a lot of talent. He is on the list of many clubs."

Looking to add depth up front and provide some cover for Harry Kane, signing a forward in the summer will be a priority for a Spurs side poised to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2010-11.

Pochettino has already dipped in Ligue 1's expansive talent pool after Lyon forward Clinton N'Jie joined the north London ranks last summer. Heung-Min Son was also brought in from Bayer Leverkusen to add depth up top, though the results have been erratic at best.

N'Jie has only appeared in seven league matches - all as a sub - and has failed to score in a season marred by ligament damage in his knee. Like the Cameroonian international, Son's debut campaign at White Hart Lane has been underwhelming. The 23-year-old has just five goals and five assists in 32 appearances in all competitions, prompting Pochettino's interest in Batshuayi.

"We have quite a few people who have given us information about him. He has good potential. We'll see," the Argentine gaffer offered on Marseille's 20-goal man.

"We have other players in our sights too."

Batshuayi isn't the only Ligue 1 standout on Tottenham's radar, with Pochettino conceding that the club is monitoring Les Gones defender Samuel Umtiti.

"Umtiti is one of the players that our recruitment department is following," Pochettino said. "He has interesting potential."
