Neymar: Barcelona's striking trio 'surprised everyone' with success

Despite his qualities as a footballer, eyebrows raised when Barcelona decided to sign Luis Suarez for around €100 million from Liverpool.

The Uruguayan was serving a four-month ban for sinking his teeth into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup, and some speculated the controversial forward would disrupt the Catalan club's harmony.

Concerns were soon quashed when the fearsome triumvirate of Suarez, Lionel Messi, and Neymar combined for 122 goals, firing Luis Enrique's outfit to La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Champions League glory.

These doubts were not unfamiliar, as critics questioned whether Neymar and Messi would hit it off when the former joined in 2013.

"Some said we wouldn't get along well, but I knew they were wrong," Neymar told Barcelona's official website. "I think we surprised everyone. Before I came to Barcelona, they said I would be fighting with Leo and with other players as well."

Instead the Brazilian has formed a good relationship with the diminutive Argentinian and, later, the troublesome Suarez.

"I knew that was not going to happen because those sort of things don't affect me. Messi has helped me a lot since I joined Barcelona.

"And we have a friendship both on and off the pitch with Suarez. We are really happy with how things are going on the pitch."

The 23-year-old appreciates that it will be more difficult this time around for Barca to replicate the successes of the 2014-15 campaign. The club currently sits fourth in La Liga and was soundly beaten over two legs by Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup.

"We had a great season winning the treble, and this (season) is more difficult. We have to do more than we have been to beat our opponents.

"I want to continue making history in Barcelona; I want to win more titles."
