UEFA has decided not to take any action against Lazio following reports of racist chants during the Champions League qualifier against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the governing body of European football told ESPNFC that neither the referee nor the match delegate reported any racist behaviour from Lazio supporters at Stadio Olimpico.
"No racist incident has been reported either by the referee or by the match delegate, therefore no disciplinary proceedings have been opened," the spokesperson told ESPNFC.
Referee Jonas Eriksson almost suspended the first leg of the play-off qualifier – which Lazio won 1-0 – prompting the stadium announcer to urge fans to stop hurling insults at Leverkusen players Jonathan Tah, Wendell, and Karim Bellarabi.
"The public announcement in the stadium was a proactive message from the Italian police," the UEFA spokesperson said.
Lazio is no stranger to racism. UEFA has fined the Biancocelesti on more than one occasion for racist taunting over the past few years. The club was handed a stadium ban for a Europa League match in 2013.
