Toronto Argonauts quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson is opting out of his contract, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
With the 2020 CFL season canceled, Bethel-Thompson is hoping for a chance to return to the NFL, Rapoport adds.
The CFL and the Canadian Football League Players' Association reportedly agreed last week to allow players to opt out of their contracts after the league canceled its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bethel-Thompson racked up 4,024 passing yards and a league-high 26 touchdowns against 13 interceptions through 18 appearances (13 starts) in 2019. He joined the Argonauts in 2017.
The 32-year-old has some NFL experience, though he's yet to attempt a pass during the regular season. He's briefly been a member of the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and New England Patriots.
