Newcastle sign Joelinton from Hoffenheim for club-record fee
Newcastle have boosted their chances of maintaining top-flight status with the club-record signing of Brazilian forward Joelinton from Hoffenheim.
The Magpies confirmed the news Tuesday, adding that the 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a six-year deal.
While the fee wasn't disclosed, reports suggest that Newcastle shelled out £40 million for Joelinton, surpassing the previous club record of £21 million tabled for Miguel Almiron in January.
"I’m really happy to be here," Joelinton said. "I know it’s a large investment that the club has made in me, and that comes with a huge responsibility."
A skilled dribbler blessed with strong link-up skills, Joelinton had a breakthrough 2018-19 season in the Bundesliga, accruing seven goals and five assists in 25 league starts. His versatile play has drawn comparisons to former Hoffenheim attacker Roberto Firmino.
Joelinton will take the No. 9 kit and help fill the void left by the departures of Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez.
