Bethanie Mattek-Sands will be out an extended period of time after dislocating her patella and rupturing her patella tendon in a gruesome fall at Wimbledon earlier this week.
The American star gave an update on the injury, which happened during her match against Sorana Cirstea, in a Facebook Live on Saturday.
"All I remember was hearing this pop in my leg, and everything was kind of slow after that," she said.
"I remember my knee feeling really tight and I took a look at it and something was wrong. I knew it was either dislocated or broken and at that point, I kind of freaked out."
Cirstea immediately called for paramedics as her opponent shrieked in pain and Mattek-Sands was eventually taken to a hospital.
The 32-year-old Mattek-Sands, who is currently the No.1 doubles player in the world and 103rd in singles, will return to New York to begin the long road to recovery.
