Marseille have been threatened with a ban from the next UEFA club competition they qualify for if they breach the governing body's rules over a two-year probationary period.

The behavior of fans in four matches of last season's Europa League run - against RB Leipzig, FC Salzburg twice, and the final defeat against Atletico Madrid - plus one late kick-off incident have resulted in five separate charges against the French club. They have been hit with the suspended one-year ban, a €100,000 fine, and seating restrictions at the Stade Velodrome.

The stadium-based punishments are for the club to play their next continental home clash behind closed doors, and then to host the subsequent outing without admission in the northern and southern ends of the ground. Marseille must inform UEFA of the exact closed-off areas of their stadium at least 10 days before that fixture.

Marseille have additionally been instructed to contact Ligue 1 rivals Olympique Lyonnais, whose stadium hosted the Europa League final, in order to pay for damages caused by their supporters.

The south coast outfit are set to compete in the Europa League group stages from September.
