Fresh off a cut from the Open Championship at St. Andrews, Bubba Watson looks to redeem himself at the Canadian Open, which began Thursday at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario.
On his opening drive from the par-4 11th hole, Watson went big, hitting 329 yards and veering right, sticking the fairway bunker. His following approach was well-played, transferring his position from the sand trap, to directly three feet from the pin thanks to a slick touch of backspin.
The Florida native made an easy putt to complete the recovery and birdie the hole.
The two-time Masters champion finished the round 4-under 68, compiling seven birdies, one bogey, and a single double bogey. The 36-year-old has never won at the Canadian Open, and tees off Friday at 12:45 p.m. ET.
